Arnaldo Pomodoro. Carapace

The Carapace is a sculptural-architectural work designed by Arnaldo Pomodoro for the Tenuta Castelbuono in Umbria. This volume, by Aldo Colonetti, illustrates its project from the earliest plans to the finished work, describing a sculpture in which two extraordinary wines, Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco, are experienced, worked and created. Pomodoro's source of inspiration was the turtle, an ancient animal: «I was inspired firstly by looking at the structure of barrels, and then by thinking about the shape of the turtle, a cosmopolitan animal symbolizing longevity and stability. The tortoise, with its convex carapace on the surface and flat on the stomach, represents the union between earth and sky». This narration is presented through an extensive photography-portfolio, produced by Antonia Mulas and Pietro Carrieri. The volume is introduced by some observations by the Lunelli family, which commissioned the work, and by different oenology and project references.
